Overview
The 1998 Mack CH613 is a Class 8 conventional-hood truck designed for highway and vocational applications. Built on a ladder-type frame and intended for medium- to heavy-duty use, the CH613 was engineered around durability and serviceability. The model is most commonly configured as a day cab but was offered with sleeper options for longer-haul applications.

Powertrain (factory-standard)
- Engine: Mack E7 12.0L inline-six diesel — rated in the 425–454 hp range with peak torque around 1,560 lb·ft as specified. The E7 is a heavy-duty turbocharged diesel designed for long service intervals and sustained highway and vocational duty cycles.
- Cooling and breathing: A heavy-duty radiator and charge-air cooler (intercooler) were standard to support higher-power ratings. Turbocharging and an engineered intake/exhaust layout are part of the factory configuration.
- Fuel system: Frame-mounted fuel tank(s) installed on the chassis; capacities were tailored to application but tanks were factory-mounted and plumbed for long-haul use.

Transmission and driveline
- Transmission: The CH613 was factory-configured to accept heavy-duty manual transmissions commonly used in Class 8 applications (Eaton-Fuller and similar 9/10/13-speed transmissions were typical factory pairings). Automatic and automated transmissions were offered as factory options.
- Driveshaft and couplings: Heavy-duty driveshaft(s) with appropriate U-joints and protection, matched to the chosen gearbox and rear axle ratio.
- Rear axle(s): Factory-supplied single or tandem rear drive axle configurations depending on intended application and gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Factory axles typically used heavy-duty gearing and carrier assemblies rated for commercial use.

Chassis, frame and suspension
- Frame: Ladder-style steel frame rails with multiple hole patterns and crossmembers for body mounting and upfit flexibility. Frame design focused on durability and long-term serviceability.
- Front suspension: Conventional heavy-duty front axle with multi-leaf spring suspension as the factory standard; air front suspension was available for specific applications.
- Rear suspension: Multi-leaf spring tandem or single rear suspension depending on axle configuration; heavy-duty shackles, springs and mounting hardware supplied to handle rated loads.
- Steering: Power steering with robust steering box and linkage designed for commercial duty cycles.

Brakes and safety systems
- Brakes: Full air S-cam service brakes were standard from the factory. Components include air compressor, reservoirs, automatic slack adjusters and spring-applied parking/emergency brakes.
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS): ABS was offered and commonly factory-installed on many CH613s as an option or part of a safety package—availability depended on the original factory specification.
- Lighting and reflectors: DOT-compliant exterior lighting and reflectors, clearance lights, and heavy-duty turn signal and marker lamp circuitry.

Cab and body
- Cab: Steel conventional cab with tilting hood for engine access. Day cab was a common factory default; small sleepers were factory-available as well.
- Exterior: Fixed heated mirrors or heated/heated/remote-adjust options depending on factory spec. Hood access and service points designed for routine maintenance.
- Storage and mounting: Factory layout included provisions for mounting bodies, hitches and vocational equipment with factory-installed frame holes and crossmembers where specified.

Interior and controls (factory-standard)
- Seating: Driver’s seat with mechanical suspension and adjustable positioning; passenger seating as a bench or single seat depending on specification. Upholstery commonly vinyl for easy cleaning; cloth available as an option.
- Instrumentation: Full driver instrument cluster including speedometer, tachometer, coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level and air system gauges.
